Game Review Submission Guide
Subnova is a gamers website first and foremost. As such, it only makes sense that we have an opinion on which games are good and which aren't. Further, it is the Subnovan Way? to slap the public in the face with our opinions. For this reason, the Subnova Library has a secion just for game reviews.
However, our Subnovan nature creates a desire for standards in everything we do. As such, here are some rules to follow when posting your game review.
Required: Game Details
What good is a review if we don't know what you're talking about? At the beginning of a review, be sure to include the name, developer and genre of the game. Genre means "Fantasy RPG" or "Sci Fi Action Shooter" or "Post Modern Toaster Sim." Whatever you feel best describes the kind of game your subject is.
Optional: Images
Few if any people want to read a review about a game and not be able to see what they're talking about. If you can, supply some images to accompany your review. They greatly enhance the quality of the review, while providing readers a glimpse into the game you're ranting or raving about.
Required: Brief Summary and Commentary
This is the heart of the review, so I shouldn't even have to put this down. Without spoiling the game, talk about what the game is about, and what you thought of it. Talk about the strong points and the weak points. You know, review the game.
Required: Score Breakdown
At the end of every review, there should be a table that breaks down how you score the game. The table looks like this:
| Graphics | X/10 |
| Sound | X/10 |
| Story | X/10 |
| Playability | X/10 |
| Replay Value | X/10 |
| Fun Factor | X/10 |
| Overall | X/10 |
The categories do not need to be the same as these, if you feel the game calls for more or less. However, from this point forward, I am requiring that a review have one of these breakdowns in order to pass as an acceptable review. The only exception to the rule will be if your article is written to an exhaustive extent.
If you do not know html, here is the template you need to create your own review:
<table>
<tr>
<td>Graphics</b><td>X/10</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Sound</b><td>X/10</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Story</b><td>X/10</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Playability</b><td>X/10</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Replay Value</b><td>X/10</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Fun Factor</b><td>X/10</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td><b>Overall</b></b><td><b>X/10</b></td>
</tr>
</table>
The word "required" is harsh. I am willing to be flexible about the reviews. However, you probably will not see your review made visible to the public if you do not meet the guidelines. |
