This all starts for me about two weeks before e3, with a phone call from Skavenger. He tells me that he got an invite to Dean's LAN for some post e3 carnage. I tell him that I'll be damned if he gets to go and make an ass out of himself and I don't get the same chance. So he better get me in... turns out he wasn't willing to risk his "chance" to give me one, alright, I can dig that... bastard.

Fast forward a few days, and I get a PM from funkmon, whining about how paypal is borked for him and he cannot get an HBO shirt (you guessed it, he wanted me to get it for him). So I check it out, and even if he is a flake, I'm only out $12 bucks, what the hell, why not? funkmon then asks if I would go to the LAN if I won... I have no idea what he is talking about so I say "yes" (seemed like a good idea at the time). Then I work...

and work...

and work...

After 44 hours in two and a half days I get home with enough time to check back in on the world. I hit HBO's front page (yeah, I didn't know about it either until a few weeks ago...) and see my name. WTF, why is my name up there? Turns out I won one of three spots to the LAN that Skav wouldn't help me crash (take that biatch). Now all I need to do is get out of the rest of work ("I'm done for the week, take me off the schedual"), and find a place to stay (I called up Skav's wife, she loves me).

So I take off for Skav's on Thursday, and I remember about 2 hours into my 8 hour drive that first, I have no AC in my truck (crapped out last summer) and second, I let my insurance slip... so I offer a sacrifice of Mountain Dew and Funyuns to the gods of the road trip for a worry free journey. I made it there just in time to eat dinner with Renegade Theatre.

Friday morning, we wake up and prep for the day (which includes taking 6 kids to school). Skav and I get to talking, and before we know it, one of his kids in the back of The Delorean starts talking about school, turns out that Skav is easily distracted by Halo talk, and he forgot he had all of them with us, and we had to double back to drop them off.

Few hours later, and a few kids less, we hit downtown LA and find the e3 grounds, and start a search for parking. We passed the $40 lots, the $30 lots, and followed a guy with a flag down an alley to the $20 "lot". I quoted up lot there because I am convinced the two guys running said lot broke into an abandoned building and started putting cars in it. This place could have formally been a small sweat shop for all we knew, but what the hell, it was relitively close and relitively cheap (plus it was not my car, only my ride... what's the worst that could happen?). Now to crash e3.

Skav call's up Wu, and after some confusion about where AND when we were to meet up, we found everyone outside of the south side entrance, and with some slight of hand, Skav and I had some passes and in we went. (In retrospect, the only thing the lady was checking at the "check point" were her nails, so we probably didn't need to gank passes as it were.) Being my first e3, I wasn't really to sure what to expect, so I got my camera (and by mine, I mean my 12 year old sisters that I stole before I left) at the ready. Now, because we had other's passes, and those others were waiting on us for rides to the LAN, Skav and I flew through row after row of.. well... e3 stuff:

There was the guy with a shirt of my favorite beer playing a game that looked fun, whose name I cannot remember; I saw an out of focus Optimus Prime hovering over the crowds; there was the great looking Dawn of War game with the pointing finger that came out of nowhere; we turned a corner and hit what could only be called the Xbox 360 wing, which was too large to fit in a single frame; walk around another corner and see a fire eating bondage clad woman trying to do something in-time with the band she was sharing the stage with; there was the Guild Wars booth manned by woman who were tired of talking to gaming nerds; the giant Final Fantasy screen, which I had to stand and watch, forgetting I had a camera until the end; some booth babes at the SOE Gods and Heroes stage, I just enjoyed the Medusa head dress; and I just caught the end of the Metal Gear Solid bit, missed almost all of it; and some more tired booth babes. Like I said, we flew, that is about an hour or so of pics... the saddest part, no Wii for mee.

So we left, found our group and returned out passes, and headed out for Deanero's and some LAN action.

First off, I cannot thank Deanero and his family enough for taking in the lot of us, feeding and entertaining us. THANKS MAN!! This is a crazy setup they have going on, out of frame is a third projector... nuts I tell you! Personally, I only played two games, and one was a 1 vs 1 against mothergoat, and the other was the infamous "drunk driving" game I was a part of... I spent most of my time socializing with other folks, finally shaking hands and seeing the faces of people I've talked with for years now (that would be mothergoat, Louis Wu, Recon#54, schooly_D, Shishka, KP, Mig, and Aros). Personally, I love the pic of schooly_D drinking a beer in his Seniors 2005 shirt. Anyway, much LAN action was had, excellent food was eaten, and faces were put to names.

When the time came, Skav and I attempted to drag Wu away from the party to catch is flight out, and we were moments too late, as he missed his flight (and had to scramble to get another to make it home in time for his daughter's play). Now back to the Land of Bake, and to sleep, Skav "let's" me drive his van home while he naps, and we get back around 0230 in the morning and crash.
